Morning All,

I admin a MS SBS server running exch03. I am no exchange wizard by any means so my server basically goes un-administered lol. Im looking to find more information about managing exchange via but mostly wizards and whatnot. Here is what I do know

Web Outlook: IP of ExchSrv03/SBS: 10.10.0.1
Internet Email Outbound: 67.133.106.83

I got these questions from a mobile user trying to setup his phone I could not answer:

- Is the Incoming Server a POP3 or an IMAP?

---I turned on IMAP4 and some of my users use thunderbird. There is also no connection setup on POP3 Connector Manager so I assume we use IMAP but these are all on our LAN

- What is the Incoming Mail Server Address (Verizon has it as pop.mccoysales.com)

---As before im using IMAP... so would this be mail.mccoysales.com or 67.133.106.83?

- What is the Incoming Port?

- Is it a SSL, TLS, or None?
--- We use none so this should be 143 ?

- What is the Outgoing Mail Server Address (Verizon has it as smtp.mccoysales.com)
--- Since the email is coming from my mail server would this be 10.10.0.1 or mail.mccoysales.com?

- What is the Outgoing Port?
-Is it a SSL, TLS, or None?
---none so 25 ?

Any help would be of great service

If this is SBS then try posting in the SBS forum.

What type of mobile deveice? If Windows Mobile, then run the ICW and make sure you have active sync configured. You will need to purchase a cert from verisign or godaddy.com. This will make your phone work properly with Exchange.

If it is a Blackberry, you can use the BIS server from your provider to get email over the air and then the user will have to connect to their desktop for contacts, calendar, etc. Or you can setup a BES server. Blackberry has instructions on how to do this.

If Outlook, then use Outlook Anywhere. Again run the ICW to make sure your server is configured properly. Then setup Outlook properly.

Neither. Exchange is an SMTP server.

---I turned on IMAP4 and some of my users use thunderbird. There is also no connection setup on POP3 Connector Manager so I assume we use IMAP but these are all on our LAN

- What is the Incoming Mail Server Address (Verizon has it as pop.mccoysales.com)
"incomming" and "outgoing" addresses are typically terms used for POP3 and IMAP4 settings. If a user is attempting to access Exchange via a smartphone, they should use ActiveSync, not POP3 and IMAP4, which are inherently insecure, and very inefficient.

---As before im using IMAP... so would this be mail.mccoysales.com or 67.133.106.83?
mail.mccoysales.com

- What is the Incoming Port?
For which protocol? A Google search will tell you that.

- Is it a SSL, TLS, or None?
--- We use none so this should be 143 ?
Likely 143, but that's not secure

- What is the Outgoing Mail Server Address (Verizon has it as smtp.mccoysales.com)
That's likely it. We can't answer questions about YOUR environment, however insecure it is.

--- Since the email is coming from my mail server would this be 10.10.0.1 or mail.mccoysales.com?
Depends on how you look at it. Both are likely the case

- What is the Outgoing Port?
-Is it a SSL, TLS, or None?
---none so 25 ?
25 for SMTP - even if it's TLS encrypted.

I would never advocate using IMAP externally. I'd block that at the firewall. If you must use it internally, then I guess you're stuck using it internally. But there should be no need to allow IMAP access from the outside. YMMV
