We had our W2K server stolen but only had backups of the data and not the system.
I have configured a new server and set it up exactly as the old PC with regard to IP address, etc. I have run the Active Directory Wizard and created the same domain name and the server works fine.
The problem I have is with the client machines (XP Pro) - I am getting trust errors logged on the server suggesting that I reestablish the trust relationship. On a few clients I have run the network ID wizard to join the domain and for these machines it works OK and the errors on the server relating to these machines disappear. The problem with this is that XP Pro sets up a new profile for the client so I lose desktop settings, personal details, etc.
Is there an easy way to configure the clients/server for the 'new' domain controller without having to run the wizard and losing settings, etc.
From what I gather, the problem is with the SID and a new domain controller in place - any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve Edwards
