We currently run DHCP on our dc but it would be useful to build redundancy into this as we will shortly have a backup dc too.

The problem is that we can't have 2 DHCP servers operating concurrently on the same subnet, so is there a way to configure one so that it will only become active when the other fails?

Regards

peter

I have two DHCP on the same subnet of an active directory network, no problems. Just define you scopes so they do not overlap in ranges.
example....

I leave 192.168.1.1 thru 192.168.1.10 out of the scopes as I use these for static addressed servers, devices

192.168.1.11 to 192.168.1.136 the range for the first DHCP server.

192.168.1.137 to 192.168.1.253 range for the second DHCP server

oh yeah! cool! Why didn't i think of that?

Thanks for that - good idea!
