Configure SMTP to accept relay from Project Server

I recently set up MS Project Server 2003 and I'm configuring the "notifications and email" settings. Emails sent from the server are rejected because of an "invalid sender address". I've added the Project Server's IP address to the default SMTP server as a "granted" relay address but it still doesn't work.

What else am I missing?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
