configure PHP "with--MySQL"

I have PHP installed on Apache. I also have MySQL installed on this machine. I can not seem to connect to the MySQL database and when I run the phpinfo, it says "without--MySQL". I know that there is a configure file somewhere that I need to change but I do not know where this file is or how to go about changing it so that phpinfo will say "with--MySQL". I am a newbie on Linux 7.2 Please explain to me like I was a 3 year old. Thank you
