I have a request to set up a obm line in one of my remote locations. From what I can tell this site has qty 1 ATA186 analog converter. Not sure how I go about configuring a new line that will be used for a modem. Any help will be much appreciated. Is it true the ATA186 only supports (2) devices or am I missing something here?

Configure the ATA just like you do an IP phone. It has 2 analog ports on it. Once it's configured and registered you'll get dial tone from the ports.

Sounds easy enough but I just can't seem to get my head around it.

1) how many analog stations does the at186 support
2) how does the at186 analog converter extend to the desk jack?

ATA supports 2 analog stations. It has 2 RJ11 jacks on it so it can reside in a wiring closet and patched to the wire going to the wall jack or it can set on the end of an ethernet wire at the modem location if necessary. Whichever your wiring plan supports.
