hi,
I'm having hard time setting up mulptiple websites on my IIS server. I created two additional site besides the default one and associated each one with an IP address. when I try to access either one of the two I created I get the default site.

the IP addresses are already setup on my DNS Server

please help.
I'm running win2000 and IIS 5.0

thanks

If you type the IP address of each site in a web browser on the IIS machine itself, does each site come up ok?

no they don't. whatever IP address I type on the server I get the default site.

thanks

This behaviour seems to say that the Default website , which I assume is set up to field "all unassigned" requests, is seeing the IP addresses as unasigned.
Are you sure you've set the local path correctly and the IP addresses?
If you set teh IP address, but each of your sites is pointing to the directory of your default, rather than the directory containing your separate sites, this will cause this problem.

will,
I have a different results now. very weird...
Site1:
intranet: - shows Http 403(forbidden) page when using name
- shows Http 404 page not found when using IP
on the same machine
Internet: - works fine using
Site2:
intranet: - works fine using Name
- shows page not found using IP

Internet: - SHOWS SITE1 instead but without images. images
are loading for ever.

I made sure that every site has a different IP assigned to it. both sites' directories are located in C:\Inetpub\publicroot where the default is in folder. I made sure I assigned header to both sites also.

I compaired both sites properties and security settings and they perfectly match.

please advise asap.
thanks so much

There are 2 parts to this configuration:
Configuring your IIS server and then configuring DNS.
Are you hosting your own DNS server?
!) You have to make sure that the default website is not running.
2) Create your websites.
3) R-Click each site, select properties and advance.
4) You can have all the sites going to the same IP or not. That is your call. Make sure that you specify the correct port. 80 is default.
4) Click on add. You must add "Site1.com" and " "Site2.com" and "Site2.com". This must be done for each site you create.

On the DNS site if you are hosting your own DNS, you must add a new zone for each domain you are hosting. Then add a host for blank (no host name). POint these hosts to the web server.

Let me know if this works

hi,
we host our own DNS server and I'm sure that the settings are correct on it because it used to work before our web server crashed.

I have each site running on a different IP 197...111 and 112 on port 80 just like they were before the crash. I completely deleted the default site. i can access site1 from outside the network but when I enter it brings up site1's home page without graphics.

what am I doing wrong?
thank

Each one of these site have their own web folder?
If you are to select each site, r-click and select browse, are you able to see the home page for each of them?

yes. each one has it's own folder. I can only view site2 which I can't see it from outside the network and the one I can see from outside the network I can't brows and view the home page.............

it's reverse, whatever I can see from inside the network I can't see from outside..

thanks for your help kmcallister

I think the only reason site1 is showing from outside the network is because it's the first site in the list. so it's acting like a default site... I could be wrong

I would delete the site then recreate them using the steps above. dbl check the IPs in you DNS server. Recreate the sites one at a time to make sure proper functionality before moving on to the next.

I'll try that and I'll let you know. can you please check back on my thread soon?
I just like to get this issue taking care of.

thanks

thanks.
- I reinstalled IIS
- stopped the default website
- created a new site Site1 using the above steps
- r-clicked --> brows I was able to view the site. no problem
- created another site Site2 using the same steps
- r-clicked --> brows I CANNOT view site. page not found. I made sure that the website directory is accessible and has default page.

the default site has IP 127.....207
Site1 127.....211
Site2 127.....212

what do you think?

I messed with the proxy settings and I was able to view both sites on local machine and the INTRANET but only one site on the internet.

Still not able to view Site2 on the internet. any ideas?

firewall only configured to pass traffic to the one IP ?

have you set all sites to use all IPs and use host headers to direct to the correct site ?

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I assigned each site a separate IP address.
I never messed with the firewall settings. everything was working properly until the srever crashed.
