hi,
i need to link 2 local machine together, 1 running win98 and another running red hat linux as server.
i've set up the network card for both machine. i need to know what else i need to configure for the network in tcp/ip other than setting own ip addr. i've set ip addr as 192.186.1.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 do i have to set up the gateways and other stuff? if so pls specify what values should be set.

my linux machine can detect the network card, when i type ifconfig, i can see eth0. how can i setup the ip address? so i can ping from either machine to check the connection is working?
thanx
