Hello,
I want to configure a computer with lots of networkcards as a switch - with limiting and supervising functions, ex. MRTG. No other requirements.

Can someone send me a good guide? A homesite?

Best Regards
Oskar R

Why are you trying to use a computer as a switch, as opposed to spending the $80 for a good linksys??

Hello,
Most of the switches don't have functions like monitoring etc. and I don't want to spend a lot of money on a swith.

Are you planning on writing your own software to handle the extra network cards? Are you planning on putting the programs into ROM to get the speed required to do the functions switching requires?

Your starting point probably should be a study of network protocols and a good understanding of tcpip. A google search for "ethernet standards" may show a good list of things to look at.

As far as a ready made setup the option I can give you is maybe trying a linux setup.
