Configuration reset of a CoreBuilder 7000HD Supervisor module..

On one of my CoreBuilder/CellPlex 7000's, there is a password/ configuration that I can't seem to reset. I have tried the jumper on the board (whiched helped with the non HD models), but this was to no avail. On one of my other switches I was able to get an HD module config reset by putting in as a redundant supervisor in a chassis and blowing a new version of the software and configuration from the master super into the locked super. This worked great, but, it won't work with this one... The reason I think I am havng problems is that the software revision of the 7000HD in question is old. (3.50). I put it in a chassis with another 7000HD (version 4.55E) and power it on. The supervisor with the unknown password becomes the master every time (the size of the older image is smaller, so, it boots faster!)... I have also booted the known switch to master by itself and then "hot added" the other 7000HD... This fails since the "hot added" card won't complete boot because of some form of interlock. (The boot will continue if I remove the active master super..) The 3.50 version does not have any redundancy features in the software (as the 4.55E version does..), so, I was probably wasting some time eliminating this as a possibility... but... I have 7 of these 7000HD supervisors and this is the only one that I can't get reset. I suppose that I can take the redundant supervisor out of the central switch, but, I would rather not, so....

Anyone have any ideas I have not tried ???? or some information about these beasts????

I have never encountered this myself on a 7000 but there is a solution on the 3Com knowledgebase that you could try:

In CB7000 running SW version lower than v4.0, the only option is to reset the whole Switch Engine configuration to factory defaults using the following procedure:
- Power off the CB7000 chassis
- Connect the PC to the service port of the CB7000 Switch Engine.
- Power on the CB7000 chassis
- Prevent the Switch Engine from loading the software &reading its configuration by sending the capital 'U' key (once a second is enough) while it's performing its power on self tests, until you see the message "Escape sequence 0x55 was inserted".
- Shutdown the terminal emulation program to release the serial port.
- From a DOS prompt, run the RESETCFG.BAT file found in the RS232 directory of the CB7000 software distribution.
ex: RESETCFG COM1 19200

I have never done this but it sounds in line with other Corebuilder fixes. You will need the code for 3.55 or lower.

Yeah .. that did it.. Funny.. I never found this in the knowledge base. Thanks for relating it..

The 3com knowledgebase is a peculiar beast, you get used to it's foibles.

Cannot recall what I entered but it worked.
