I am a DBA who just started getting into networking. We are currently using a SOHO2 on a very SLOW ISDN line and have a VPN with our e-Commerce partner. We are in the process of upgrading our internet service to cable to increase speed. Currently our ISP (Verizon) has issued us 2 public static IP addresses (one for the ISP provided router and one for the SOHO2).
Comcast says they cannot provide 2 static IP addresses as part of the service agreement but (they say) I don't need 2 if I pay $49.00/mth for "Open Port" and use IPsec to passthrough the router. The technician at Comcast said to open ports 50 and 51 and point them to . . . . (I don't have the E-mail in front of me, it's at work . . .).
I am ignorant of VPN/IPsec/open port/pass-through but, I don't understand how this will work without 2 public static IP addresses . !??!
Can anyone tell me if this will work or provide a method to get my Sonic Wall working behind the Comcast router using a VPN with my e-Commerce partner using only 1 public static IP address?
Thanks,
Dave Williams
