What is the best way to setup connections to multiple server environments ( Testing, development, Production)?Assuming I setup an odbc connection for each environment, and run a report. How do I make sure that when I upload the report via CMC into a specific folder that I created, that the folder points to the development server for example?

It's unclear whether you're trying to have multiple environments on a single server or separate servers for each environment. Best practice is to have separate servers for each.

If you have your environments on separate servers, you can set up ODBC DSN's on the servers that have the exact same name but point to the database for that environment. This makes it MUCH easier to move reports between environments using the Import Wizard because you don't have to manually change the Database Configuration after importing.

When you upload a report via the CMC or update it through Crystal, you should ALWAYS go to the properties of the report and check the Database Configuration to make sure that it's pointing to the correct connection. Also, if you're not using integrated security on your database, updating reports through Crystal will remove any password that has been set up in the configuration, so this is the only way to make sure that the password gets reset.

The environments already exists..meaning Testing, Development, and Production..( these are the data sources). I want to point BOXI to each of these environments, and just as you mentioned, be able migrate the reports through each environment accordingly.

My problem is that I keep getting the following error message:

(The report you requested requires further information.

Database Logon

AR System ODBC Data Source -
Server Name AR System ODBC Data Source
Database Name
User ID
Password )

There has to be a configuration that I can change in CMC, that will allow me to point pull data from different data sources or servers..

So you have one server, that you're pointing to different repository databases depending on which one you want to look at? Or are all three environments in different folders on the same repository?

Yes we have one Business OBjects Enterprise server, that we want to point to different databases (BTW - all are SQL Server 2005 databases).

I don't think the environments have been configured\identified. I tried using the odbc connection that was used to create the report, but it doesn't seem to work when I attempt to preview the report. Even when I go the the processes tab and change the manually change the configurations.

Ok, you're going to have to do this on a report-by-report basis as there is no way to set this at the folder level. After publishing a report, you need to go to the report in the CMC and set the "Database Configuration" so that the report points to the correct database for the folder's environment.
