I just recieved a new cisco 1600 router. It replaced another 1600 that went bad. I still had the 8mg memory chip from the old 1600, so I used it in this one. Now when I boot to a console port I get this error.

%SYS-4-CONFIG_NEWER: Configurations from version 11.2 may not be correctly understood.

When I put the router in Place the interface goes up and down constantly.

Anybody have any good suggestions?

I have sometimes cleared this by resaving the running config to the startup config in NVRAM. Other times, I have to upload the config via TFTP or possibly change a few settings by hand.

What link is constantly going up and down?

Some times when the serial interface bounces or goes up and done that may signify a clocking problem.

check your bits per second on the hyperterminal. It might be whats causing the router to go up and down.

Make sure that your connection speed is set at an adequate speed. If it is set at higher than 9600 bits per second, it will not work properly unless you have T1 speed and higher.

your new router has a different IOS version from the old one. you will probably want to upgrade the IOS so the config is compatible with it.

Hope this helps
