enough time has passed so i can confess to this now, about 3 years ago i worked for the BBC as a VB Developer,

We were using Visual basic 5 and source safe, now there was a wee bit of a gremlin in the way this had been set up and time to time, it would unexpetly role back a few version's which was recoverable , just needed to keep an eye out for it,

in my second week to last week, it rolled back about 4 versions worth (apx 3 months worth of work) I couldnt for the life of me get the correct version of the app back i spent all of my last week trying whilst trying to get my replacement up to speed on the project.

In the end i quietly exited whistling incospicuously on my way out. i wonder if anyone ever found out ?

anyone else got any confessions

It's called job security.

But then again... What was the reason for them for " letting you go" ? They were under budjet ( the boss's son put 50K worth of strippers on the company credit card and now they have to cut somebody ) ? They found that you were not important enough to the team ?

More than once with the system I'm working on now, I broke something myself with a poorly devised query, then claimed it was database corruption.
