To establish a conference call we have 2nd party on the line, then press TRANSFER, getting staggered dial tone. We call 3rd party, then press CONF to have 3rd party join 2nd and 1st parties.

If the attempt to bring in the 3rd party goes to Voicemail, or gets a busy signal, how do we break off that call and return to the 2nd party -- clearing the line for another conference attempt?

Our old notes indicate ***, but that doesn't seem to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bill

Once you get the voice mail or busy signal try pressing the "recall" key then the "transfer" key to bring the original party back on the line. Then you should be able to press transfer again and continue with the next attempt.

What voice mail system do you have. You need to tell the vm to disconnect the call first. That's why you have the *** code. Has your vm system changed?

Hey, thanks for the feedback. We have indeed changed our VM system from an NEC AD64 to an NEC UM8500. But how does our VM system come into play when our call to a 3rd party is hitting on their VM system?

Also, re: the comment about pressing RECALL then TRANSFER, that doesn't work either. It doesn't take us back to the first caller. It seems to respond as if we were simply Transferring. For example, I call my office # from my cell phone, then conference our VM system (simulating my situation). When I press RECALL my cell phone picks up on the VM system, and I can't get back to where my desk phone is re-engaged with the cell phone.

?? Tricky stuff. And frustrating.

I would add also that when we press just the TRANSFER button to return to the initial caller, we become a broker to both calls. So, if the 3rd party's # is ringing with no answer, it continues to ring. It if's busy, it continues to ring busy. If it goes to VM, it records nothing.

Being a broker between 2 parties is a terrific option on occasion, but not what I'm after here. I was to kill the call to the 3rd party, and resume my conversation with the 2nd party--in a way that's transparent to the 2nd party.

Thanks

You have to find out what codes will drop the call from voice mail. With your old AD-64 the *** told the voice mail system to release the call then you could go back to the other call with no trouble. I am not familiar with the UM8500 so I am not sure how you would drop a call with that platform....
