It appears that I have a couple of 2610 routers with bad console ports. I have been trying to connect to these routers through various means and I am at a bit of an impasse.

When I boot the routers they go through their boot sequence and then start displaying garbage characters on the screen. They also do not appear to be accepting any input.

Troubleshooting:

I have tried multiple cables.
I have tried hyperterminal and minicom.
I have tried resetting the baud by connecting DUART pins 1 & 2.
I have reloaded the IOS from another good 2610.
I have taken the flash out of the bad router, placed it in a good router and booted with no problems. I configured an IP, saved, and then moved the flash back to the bad router but cannot ping the IP that it was given.

These routers are wiped so there is no configuration currently.

Is there anyway I can connect to these guys and make them usable for my CCNP lab?

Just an additional detail...

The switch (2950) that i have it connected to shows a green light on the port it is connected to, as does the router. Line protocol is up on the switchport. Seems I should be able to connect..?

Have you tried different speeds on your terminal emulator? If someone changed the config register then that will change the console speed settings and it won't be 9600,8,n,1 .

Wow I feel like an idiot! Such a simple solution when I've been trying all kinds of crazy stuff. TYVM.

In an emergency like that, always short the UART pins on the system board, turn it on and back off, unshort them, and back on. This hard resets the BAUD to 9600. Works on 2600's and 3600's I know for sure...
