What is the recommended workstation conduit size to house 4 CAT6 cables - is 3/4 inch large enough?

Thanks.

Yes
3/4 EMT will hold 4 CAT6 cables (0.23" dia) fine. The fill percent is 38% and the standard says 40% fill max for 3 or more cables.

The jam ratio is 3.5 (you want to keep it above 3). Remember each 90 degree bend (2 max per standard) reduces the capacity by 15%. Using more robust formulas (less rounding, more exact), the 3/4 conduit (.824" dia) can hold 3 cables when you have the 2 -90 degree bends.

It really depends on what you are doing with the conduit. 3/4" will be fine for a 7' straight box stub. However if you are trying to run distance or there are bends or sweeps involved you will need at least 1".

I would never recommend 3/4 in any pull that involves sweeps and bends.

I agree with wires that you want 1" minimum. We have also discovered that pulling soap will break down over the years and almost act as a gluing agent between the jacket and the conduit.

I work for a Telco so we may revisit sites to pull new wire years later and have encountered this often enough that I now use water as a lube agent for pulling long runs.

Excellent information. Thanks to all.

To add to Crowtalks' post- If you've gotta use cable lube, use yellow 77, or another product designed for that application. I've seen dish soap used a lot, too, and it does create hassle down the road. Most true cable lube is made with Teflon.

Oh, and 3/4" should be fine.

BTW after you use Polywater or the Ideal clear glide you will "NEVER" use D&L or Yellow 77 again. Both are pretty nasty when you try to go back into the conduit later.

Lubrication makes all the difference in the world when pulling cable. The less friction the better! IDEAL CLEAR GLIDE or AQUA GLIDE gets my vote!

I have even used it to pull wire when there is no conduit in an insulated wall. I had six runs to re pull in a house. I was happy the old ones were not stapled. It worked great.
