conditionally formatting text objects

I need a formula to conditionally suppress text objects if they do not contain a database field. I have reports that contain ()- in a text object, but if the user does not have a phone number , no fields display in the text box and it looks bad. I can't figure out how to apply a formula to a text object... Help !

Use Format-Field or Format-Text and on the Common tab you should have a suppress option with a formula button next to it. Put in the condition formula that you want. Probably something like:

isNull( {field} ) Ken Hamady
Crystal Reports Training and a
