Hi Guys,

My boss has asked me to look at a spreadsheet he uses to highlight issues.

He wants to type the Value "HR" into a cell and for the background to go Red and for the text in the cell to change to say "H".

Using conditional Formatting I can get the background Red but I can't change the text.

This may sound like a wierd thing to want to do but he has three levels of RED activities (H,M,L).

Any Ideas?

He can't do that with Conditional Formatting - You would need VBA in order to do that, and would have to use an Event macro (Change Event).

What you can do without VBA however is to use one column for his imputs and the column next to it for the outputs, such that he types HR into say A5, and then in B5 will appear a Red H.

Just to clarify, you would use an IF statement or a VLOOKUP in col B to get the correct value based on his input, and can then use CF on what is returned from the formula to get the colouring.
