Conditional Formatting by month 1

I ‘m tracking my employees appraisals by month. When they come due I would like for the month (in cell A6) to be shaded in. Under Conditional Formatting I input this formula:
=($A$6=today())
In cell A6 I have: October

This only works for October 1st
For October 2nd – 31st the cell is no longer shaded.
Is there a way to keep cell A6 shaded for the entire month of October??

=MONTH($A$6)= MONTH(TODAY())
