Conditional cell formatting

This is probably a basic excel question, but I need to format cells to show text in red when the date in the cell is earlier than the current date. Thanks in advance.
 
You've really answered your own question here.
You do need to use conditional formatting which is on Format. Conditional Formatting, Then cell value is less than now() and set condition to red

Thanks! I was setting conditional value to less than (now) instead of now(). Duh!
