I want an exclamation point .gif to display in my detail if no. of complaints > 3 else nothing. How do I assign a .gif conditionally?

I would suggest that you consider a font instead, such as Wingdings which will prove much faster.

Depending upon your Crystal version, you can insert in a picture, then right click it and select Common->X 2 next to suppress and place something like:

{table.complaints} <= 3

Now I'm guessing that you migh come back and state that you don't have that option in your version of Crystal, or that determining the number of complaints means a summary operation instead of just reading a single field, but please keep in mind that since you tried to convey requirements in a short blurb, the possibilities for resolving were too vast to be accurate.
