I hope I can explain this well enough for everyone to get an answer. I think I want a conditional format, but not certain.

What I have is a Vacation-Absentee spreadsheet. I use Office Excel 2000. In column A2:A20, I have names. Across the top, I have dates. I mark a "V" for Vacation or an "A" for absent in, lets say cell FE13.

In A13 would be the name. If my cursor is in B13 thru DD13, I would like A13 to be Highlighted or change colors so that I know I am updating the correct person. If I moved to Z20, I would want to highlight A20.

I guess I am seeking a way of highlighting a cell or changing colors in a cell based upon cursor position.

I thank everyone in advance for all that you do to help out us novices.

You can onnly do something like that with VBA, but you can lock the left column as you scroll through the sheet.

If I wasn't Blue, I would just be a Dragon...

To lock Column A:

Click on column B and under the Window menu option, click on split.

[Blue]Blue[/Blue] [Dragon]

If I wasn't Blue, I would just be a Dragon...

You'll need to use VBA to accomplish this. Please repost in forum707.

BTW: Here's a thread that does something very similar to what you want: thread707-1509880

If you Windows > Freeze Panes appropriately, then Column A, containing the NAMES and Row 1 (or whatever row your DATES are in) will ALWAYS be visible.

Also, if your Tools > Options: View Tab; Window Options-Row & Column Headers is selected, you can see HIGHLIGHTED the ROW and COLUMN HEADERS included in your Cell Selection.

So is there REALLY any need for anything MORE than THAT?

Skip,
