Hello,

Have a RES 3700 system, running v5.2.

Our sides are setup in Condiment Groups. I understand for the most part how this works, setup quite a few groups to get everything flowing correctly.

I have a Steak menu item that has the option of soup or salad, and a couple side dishes.

I can't wrap my head around how to get the salad dressing to be prompted.

You order Steak with a salad. Waiter hits the Steak button, and is prompted with the meat temp. Then they are prompted with Salad or Soup. Waiter hits Salad and should be prompted for the dressing. I don't see in the Salad menu item to have a required condiment group be called when selected.

How would I do this? Does our Help Desk contract cover these type of questions??

Thanx,

PM

There's no easy fix for this, or even a decent way to do it. What your trying to do is to put a forced condiment on a condiment, and that can't be done.

The best way I can think of doing this is to force 2 selections for the Soup/Salad forced condiment group. You'll be adding a keystroke to the ordering process when a guest orders Soup instead of Salad but that shouldn't be a big deal. The only downside is that the servers can order two salad dressings without ordering a salad, but that's just an excuse for the kitchen to yell at them, which they usually want to do anyway.

To set up the salad dressing, just add them as condiments with the Soup/Salad membership. You'll also need one called N/A or something to that effect. This item should have a print class that doesn't go anywhere except possibly the journals. This will be used for Soup and the print class will keep it from muddling up the kitchen chits.
The server will press Steak, Temp, Soup, "N/A", and then the sides.
I'd set the SLU Priorities on these modifiers something like this:

Soup 2
N/A 4
Salad 6
Dressings 8 (all of them)

This way the buttons will show up in order for your staff - [Soup] [N/A] [Salad] [Dressing1] [Dressing2] [Dressing3]...

To enable this go to the setup screen for Condiment Selections. Click on the Soup/Salad selection, check "Use Min-Max" and enter 2 in the Minimum and Maximum boxes. This will force you to enter two selections from that group; either Soup & N/A or Salad & dressing.

Your help desk support most likely won't cover it; this would be a reprogramming request, not a problem.

Let me know if that helps.

We use combo items for this. The sides are treated as menu items rather than condiments. So in turn you can attach condiments to the menu items. Only downfall to this that I know about is it removes the ability to split that menu item onto two different checks (i.e. two people paying for one meal, wanting it split to two checks).

On our setup the steak items comes with a side. So we have steak temp condiment associated with the steak menu item. The next prompt will be for soup, garden salad, or a variety of potato options. if they choose soup or garden salad the correct prompts will appear next (either soup choice, or dressing choice accordingly). If they choose a potato, no extra prompts would be displayed.

Regards,

Jason

Nice one. I've never had to use combo meals so don't even think of them.
How do you deal with the kitchen printing when the sides have to print with the main item?

The other option is to specify your dressings on the salads on your salad choice condiment membership. "Salad No Dressing" "Salad Italian" etc.

What do you mean by the sides printing with the main item? With combo meals, the choices are all menu items, but are treated as condiments, so they get tabbed out just like normal. Or are you talking about some kind of add-on side needing to print with the main item?
