Concerns: upgrading CF 4.5 dev server to CFMX7 dev server

I have been developing on the CF 4.5 enterprise development server -- installed on Win XP Pro with IIS -- for many years now. Even as I write, I am downloading CFMX 7 development server (about time, eh?).

My question is pretty general. What should I know before installing CFMX7 on the same machine? I can't seem to find documentation that answers that at Adobe.com. Can I run both servers simultaneously? Should I uninstall the old server first (which is a scary thought)? Will the new server give me the option of migrating all my old settings to it and then uninstall the old server for me?

Any help is welcome here. And be kind. My medication has not yet taken hold.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If anybody here can write a concise answer, it would be a fine addition to this site's FAQ.

I can't answer everything, but our severs still have older version on them, but the services are disabled - not running. We could have switched back to older versions if needed.

Phase 1: Read the CFML Reference
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!

If memory serves there is a wizard within cf admin that allows you to check for problems between old cf code and the new version, and it will tell you what needs to be changed.

If you want to leave your current dev box as is and see how cfmx goes you can do. cf can install on its own built in webserver which runs off port 8080, so all requests like yourserver.com:8080/index.cfm will go to cfmx, where yourserver.com/index.cfm will go to cf 4.5 and work as is.

When you want to make the move over to just using cfmx you can then change from using the built in webserver to whatever you are using, here is a technote on how to do it:
and then just stop the 4.5 services.

Hope this helps!
