CONCAT giving wacky results

I have a query like this:

SELECT
P.PageID,P.PageSUB,
CONCAT("L1=" , P.PageID, "&sub=", P.PageSUB) AS thePath
FROM Pages P

What I want thePath to look like is:

L1=12&sub=res

what I get is:

[B@7857a5

It looks like it is Concatenating the field reference or something wacky.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening.
