Conact Server Call DLL functions

Thought I'd throw this one out and see if anyone's come across it.

We're implementing a credit card auth system between the ACD and Contact Server, using the call dll step to run the actual processing.

In testing, the process works only about 50% of the time, even though we can see the DLL return the information via tracer. Every time it fails the same error message appears :

VERSIT RouteEnd 6, 85 ErrorValue 176.

So far, I can find no reference to the error in any kb or docs. Has anyone come across anything like this, and if so, did you find out what it means or a solution?
 
I'm betting it is a timeout issue (not 100% though) I've seen about the same success rate in IVRs until the timeout setting is upped
