Computer won't boot without PS2 keyboard, want USB

I'm new to these boards, so I don't know if this question belongs in this area. If it doesn't can someone point me in the right direction? I'll go ahead and tell you my problem, thanks in advance!

I have just bought twenty compaq deskpro 4000 computers, 200 mhz MMX, 2 gig HD, CD ROM, 32 mb of ram...TWENTY of them!

I also bought 20 USB keyboards.

These systems have USB inputs but won't seem to boot with just USB in, it always says some keyboard error and then when I put a PS2 keyboard in, it will boot right up.


I tried to change the hardware settings so only the USB keyboard will work...I have installed the driver for it and it works perfectly while the system is running, but I can't get them to boot with just USB alone.

PLEASE help! Is there ANYTHING I can do? I had a friend help me upgrade the bios and get some utility diagnostic tools...but nothing at all has helped. It is pretty important to me, 20 keyboards arn't cheap.

Again, works perfectly while running, just won't boot with USB alone. HELP

I'm trying to run windows 98 SE, i've tried 95 B with USB support and the same problem occurs

I believe you need to ensure the BIOS allows for USB under DOS - or legacy.
Unfortunately, that implies that you need a PS/2 keyboard to make the change !
I hope you have one lying around.

Yes the previous post is correct, enable USB in the BIOS for the keyboard to be recognized

There is also a setting in BIOS where you can make your PC boot and bypass errors such as the missing PS/2 Keyboard and any other type of errors etc

Its a setting that reads similar to:

"Halt On Errors" - once found disable it!

It is something like that so look carefully at all of your options and find the setting that allows you to not halt on errors otherwise when the PC detects no PS/2 keyboard it'll stop and present an error and you can't get past (as far as I know) because there is no PS/2 keyboard!!

Im sure it is in BIOS Features can't remeber
