I have two friends that have new Dell Computers with XP home addition OS. The computers will not boot when their USB printers are attached. If they unplug the printer and restart, then the computer will boot up. They can then plug in their printers and are off and running?

Any suggestions as to what is causing this, or how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

Do they boot up with other USB peripherals plugged in?

I have a PC with XP Pro that has a USB HP All-in-one that I don't have any issues with.

If it works with a USB mouse or other peripheral plugged in, then try rebooting a different PC with the printer plugged in.

You are going to need to start narrowing down the cause. Is it the printer, the OS or the Motherboard...

This is also often resolved with a BIOS patch. Might want to check with the manufacturer and ensure you have the latest available.
