hi all i have a really weird problem i bought a new 200 gb western digital hard drive, and after connecting it to the ide and turning the computer on, the computer would go off after about 3 seconds.

If i disconnect the hard drive then its fine and the computer powers on as normal

i am running xp
512 ram
epox motherboard ep-8kta3l+ (i just flashed the bios but have the same problem)

i had a 40 gb on that ide before so it was just a case of replacing the old drive, but i cant get the computer to stop turning itself off with this new drive

if anyone has any ideas at all please drop me a note, i am stuck as to what the problem may be

thanks all

The obvious question - does your board/bios support a drive of this size? (does it appear on POST screen as 200GB?)

Have you access to another machine to try the drive in (again, one supporting its size). If 2 machines which should support it have a problem, I'd suggest its time to return it to supplier)

Make sure that it is set as SLAVE instead of MASTER or CABLE Select.
This can cause problems like this
