Computer starts by it self.

My PC ( MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-7VXE) starts by it self when phone rings or the hand set its lifted off the cradle.Does any one know what setting I need to tinker with?

It sounds like wake on Lan but it's with a modem...

I failed to mention that I also have a modem connected that I use for sending faxes. I'm running XP and it did the same thing in WIN 2K PRO. Both were completely updated.

What I mean is that you might have the WOL enabled .
Try to disable it from the NIC , the Bios and maybe the modem.

I found the problem. I had to disable "PME EVENT WAKE UP"
