I'm considering a career change. I'm currently in law enforcement but would like to get into computer security. Can someone give me some information on how to get started?

Hi NYLawMan --

You might think about looking at the website for the International Information Systems Security Certifications Consortium ( They are the certifying agency associated with the premier computer security certification, CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) as well as the SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner).

Different vendors (e.g., Cisco Systems) also have security certifications that might provide an entry point into the field. I'm sure there's someone in one of the computer security newsgroups (e.g., comp.security.misc) who'd be happy to give you more information that I can.
