I have windows 7 in over the weekend I received an error message that says windows 2012 detected a viruses.
I have kaspersky total installed. Scanned computer several times and kaspersky says it's clean.
my computer is not running propeely. Any recommendations? How did the virus install itself if kaspersky is running on the computer?

You have downloaded a piece of malware. You might download and run malwarebytes, it should catch it.

The download is probably Windows Antivirus 2012.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

You could verify clean after Malwarebytes Antimalware with using these as backups as well:
1. SuperAntispyware
2. Spybot Search and Destroy

Malwarebytes will be the number 1 choice, though.

Also make sure you're AV is up to date, and that you're using one of the better ones. You can look at to see how they stack up. My personal recommendation is MS Security Essentials unless you want more detail or control, or want to pay for Antivirus. Another good one is Avira Antivir (was my personal favorite before using MS Security Essentials.

Also, you may want to look into using a firewall other than Windows firewall. Windows firewall in Windows 7 is pretty good, but there are still better. For instance, I prefer Comodo or Online Armor - each is about as good as the other. In usage, I think they each have their own pros and cons. For instance, Comodo seems to more easily forget your "always remember" settings than Online Armor, but I've seen either one act up in odd ways at times. In general, though, they do provide much more protection than the Windows firewall, as well as more than most other firewalls... well, last I checked anyway, which has been a while.

And then you might also want to look into using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome for your web browser. And with that, I would suggest (if you can get used to it) using these 2 add-ons/extensions: Ad Block Plus and NoScript. Ad Block Plus will stop most of the banner/pop-up/etc ads. NoScript will not allow ANYTHING to run unless you expressly tell it to be allowed. That's why it takes getting used to. But you also learn more about what all is behind various websites. You'll see where some have one or a few scripts, and others just have oodles and oodles of scripts.
