Hi

When I logon to any network, both my home network and VPN, my computer "hangs" for a couple of minutes. It also does the same when disconnecting from either network. The "hang" doesn't freeze everything, it freezes the task bar and won't let me open new windows. I can still Alt-Tab through existing windows which seem to work fine. When the "hang" ends, all the clicks that I may have made on the task bar, all occur at once. I have tried a new network adaptor but that hasn't made any different. A also have a Win2K machine on the same network and VPN which has no problems.

I have been working around for a few months now but it's slowly driving me nuts as my computer "hangs" just after boot when it connects to my home network.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Stupid question but are you using a static IP address and if so, could it conflict with your W2K machine's IP address ?

Both Win XP and Win 2k machine are connected to a router/modem and are allocated different IPs on connection.

I really doubt whether it would make any difference but Win XP machine is wireless, Win 2k is wired. The signal is constantly above 95% so I can't see that that can be the problem. Have tried the wireless connection on Win 2k machine and no hang.

Thanks

Chris

Are you at Service Pack 2 on the WinXP level?

If so, use Device Manager to uninistall the existing connection information. Then rebuild it for both wired and wireless.

You should check prior to the above if there are newer driver softwares for either or both your wired and wireless connections.

I am an unabashed fan of XP with Service Pack2, but rebuilding the network connection is something yous just do. No yelling, screaming or arguments, you just do it.
