On a Dell Dimension running XP Pro SP2, the computer will occasionally start playing audio on it’s own. Sometimes it is music, sometimes it sounds like audio from a movie. When this happens there is no indication of any programs running that I can see. This sometimes happens when I have IE open and sometimes not. I have a broadband connection, with a router and hardware firewall and also have windows firewall enabled. I use Symantec antivirus corporate, and I have ran TrendMicro housecall, which found a few instances of malware, but the problem continues.
Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Im starting to think your computer is picking up a radio station or something. As crazy as it sounds it does happen. Used to happen to a friend of mines computer. Not sure how you can stop it though. Either way just to be sure, download hijackthis from the link below. Open it up, choose do a system scan and save a logfile and post the logfile on here. Do not attempt to fix anything on it unless you know what your doing as not everything it shows is bad.

It might be your browser. Some websites have embedded audio files that automatically play when you access a website. Another possibility is that some ad banners play short tunes when you pass over them with your mouse. If the sounds happen if you have your browser(s) open, this might be the case. If they're closed, look at the open applications running in the background. The Task Manager helps with this.
