ok, could anyone let me know if they are aware of any problems changing computer names on clients using the agent?

reason I am asking is i would like to deploy the agent on our companies laptops, we use ghost to image them, when i do a name change will it pop up inside the epo console as a new machine, or must i manually deploy it as we image and reimage machines?

anyone use ghost and epo at an agent/client level?

You'll be fine.

When the agent first starts up it checks the MAC and computer name. If either one has changed it generates a new GUID. I've had the agent on several RIS images for a while w/o any problems.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but this has been my observations:
If you rename a machine it will not delete the old GUID in the database but it will eventually be cleaned out when an "Inactive Clients" task runs.

I agree you will have no problem. We Ghost PCs with the agent already installed and once the new PC is up and on the domain with a different name I see it in the console.

qtin - I don't know exactly about the GUID deletion either.

when my "imaged" machines populate the epo directory, they come up in a site of their own called "unknown domain" anyone know why?

I only have 1 site defined which is my domain.
