Computer freezing up

My computer (an acer laptob) freezes up everyother time I turn it on. The mouse wont move from the time I turn it on. I unplug it and let the battery die (which only takes it like to minutes because I think I might of fried the battery) and turn it on again and it works fine. Does anybody have any idea what is wrong with it or how I can fix it.
