I have 12 machines sitting in my office, they all freeze at random points. They are winxp mostly but one has windows 98 and has the same problem. It is not hardware related, they are all very different, and DONOT overheat in any way. This started happening last week. I have run xp repair, virus scans completely up to date and run, all service packs installed, and ad aware, Spybot, and windoctor have all been run. Dear god, please someone help me find the virus/trojan that is causing all these machines to freeze randomly, and at different points in time.

Thanks.

Anything showing up in the event log? How long to the Freezes last? Is there a commonality among the users (all are running outlook at the time etc)? When it freezes can you ping the frozen machine from another PC? Can you map a drive to that machine? These would help to indicate if you are having a network issue or rather a virus issue.

I think I have figured this out. It has to do with windows updates being FUBARed! I want to kick microsoft in the nuts. Anyways, windows update KB835732 will cause a system to freeze if it is running a VPN client or other listed software. There is a microsoft article on it, I dont have the link right in front of me.

Basically disable IPSEC agent in services, and that will fix the problem.
