My PC freezes after a few miuntes of operation. However, it seems as though before it goes into its freeze-state, the mouse opens up a series of random windows and pull-down menues. After this, there is no response from the mouse or keyboard.
Rebooting releases the freeze, but the problem is repeated. I'm using Win98 on a generic PC. Thanks

Believe it or not, I have seen this happen exactly as you say, and what it was, funnier still, was the mouse had a broken wire inside the cable, so the PC would get all sorts of bizzare signals.

The PC in question would work OK then when you moved the mouse, or even without moving the mouse, the desktop would go ape, until it would eventually lock up.

Try a new mouse, see if that helps - or just try no mouse, and you will soon know.

Hope it helps.
