I haven't seen this one, so I hope you guys can help me with this.
Here's my problem...I was given this computer to fix for my nephew. The problem with it is that it does not boot up.
When I turn on the computer it acts normal during post, at least for awhile.
It begins to load up, and I can see the Windows 95 screen, then it goes away and goes to a black screen which says...'Scan engine v4.0.35 for DOS' then says..'Virus data file v9179 created on 01/02/2002.
After that it says...'Checking memory for virus...is OK.
Right after that it says, 'Scanning c:\*.* Pass 1, Pass 2 all the way to Pass 12. After Pass 12 The hard drive locks up, and I can do absolutely nothing. I lose the key board and mouse and that is as far as I can get. After pass12 I do get continous very fast beeps, almost sounds like one long beep? and never ends. I have to shut down the computer.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

What I have:
Gateway 2000 computer
Pentium II processor, speed 233 Mhz
BIOS Ver. 4A41lL0X0.15A.0017.P14 (I think I got that right)
PRI IDE MASTER: IBM-DHPA-38451

Thanks,

Start in safe mode, run Scandisk, uninstall the antivirus, reboot, install updated (AVG?) antivirus and scan for virusses.

Andy.
