Okay, so the circuit breaker blew because we had too many things on, and the computer shut down. Outlook Express 6 was in the process of downloading 5 messages. Two had already been downloaded and were being read when the computer shut off. Now when we restart the computer and open up OE, the new emails are gone. I have a feeling that they're gone for good, but I'm just writing to see if this has happened before to anyone and if there was anything you could do. Does this have to do with when/how OE writes new emails into the .dbx files once they're received? Thanks!

Typically they are saved on the server until the send/receive operation completes. So it sounds like that is the case since they aren't there anymore.

The fact that they are no longer in your .dbx files does indicate that files were being written to and/or they were simply in use, and you have lost the data. I suggest running a folder compact to clean things up, in case other corruption exists. File>Folder>Compact All Folders

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
