I have just built a computer with a intel D815EFV motherboard and an intel celeron 1.1GHZ processor. The motherboard does not have an onboard video card so i bought a PCI Video Card. When I boot the computer nothing shows up on the screen but you can hear it boot up.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

This board is supposed to have on-board graphics - it's sister board - the D815EFPV - doesn't. Which one do you have?

Can you test the card in another computer?
If you can - and it works ok - try moving it to different slots - also - keep it as far away as possible from other PCI boards.(If you do have other cards - like sound/modem/etc leave them out to start with)

I have tested it in another computer and it works.

I do not have any other PCI Cards in the computer.

Ok - from what I can see this board also has an AGP slot. The problem now is simple - you have to change the primary display in the BIOS from the AGP slot to PCI - according to the technical specs there is a setting for this available, but it is set to AGP by default. As you can't view the screen at all at the moment this is obviously a little difficult. What you need to do is borrow an AGP card so that you can reset the BIOS. Maybe the shop where you bought the board and card can help with this, when it has been set to the PCI as primary display it should work fine with the PCI card.

Kim Leece.

(p.s. I don't really understand why you bought a PCI video card in the first place - there are some very cheap AGP's available)

I used the AGP out of our other computer but still no picture showed up.

The only other possibility - apart from a defective board - is that your RAM is either not seated correctly or possibly of the wrong make. Try taking out the RAM and putting it back in carefully. If at the moment you are hearing a beeping sound when you power on then it is definately a RAM problem. Has the RAM you are using been certified for this board - Intel has a page on memory for the board here:
If the RAM does work then you will still need to start up via the AGP card so that hopefully you will be able to see to change the BIOS.

Good Luck,

Kim Leece
