I am Running a W2k Server and all workstations are XP they are not running the computer browser service, I have enabled this service to start in the registry and set it to auto the service then started it but after I restart the machine it resets itself to no in the reg parameter.

I know I can make a MSI package to change the reg but someone said that this has something to do with AD? any help much appreciated

You mean this registry change:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser]
"Start"=dword:00000002

This service is dependent on the Workstation and Server service. What is your setting for these services?

Thanks for the prompt reply,
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\parameter] changed: maintane server list to auto.

started Comp brow service (before it would not start due to error 2550 changing the reg setting let you start the service)

This service is enabled on the server.
