Last night, I shut down my computer like I usually do once every few nights. Then about 5 minutes later, I heard the computer booting up all by itself as if someone had hit the power button. The system froze once during boot up (when the RAM was being checked), but another time it successfully booted all the way to Windows. I turned off the computer several times but it booted up soon after every time. What gives? Does anyone have any idea as to why a computer, with its power button OFF, can possibly turn on by itself?

Thanks.

My brother computer does that. He has to turn it off at the back. We never figured out why it did that. Someone suggested we disable the "wake on LAN" feature in the bios among other ideas. I forget if we ever did. I had the same motherboard as my brother once and it did the same thing. Do you have an MSI board out of curosity?

Hello! I've also got this problem! My pc kept booting by itself even if the power button was off n this finally burnt away my power supply!!! I asked a technician about it n he said it's because of atx casing. It's not like AT which u have to turn off urself after u shut down. With atx, the pc automatically turns off by itself. So it's not so secure n u must always switch off the mains to which ur pc is connected after u shut down to prevent any current from going back to the pc. N then i also had one other problem. I didn't have earth wire in my connection. Do u have one? Better check it out n even if u do have one check ur voltage. It could be the source to ur problem!

I don't know if this is the right solution. I'm just trying to help. Hope it's of use to u!

I could think of several things that could cause this.
In the BIOS you have chosen
Wakeup on Ring - Incoming phone call
Wakeup event - Mouse
Wakeup event - Keyboard
Wakeup event - Ethernet Card

In the Maintenance program
Scheduled event - Maintenance scheduler.
Scandisk
etc.

When you shutdown windows, the computer is still powered up, it just isnt active. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
