Can someone tell me if the book I purchased today is the right one for CompTia A+ exam? It's ExamCram2's "A+ Second Edition" for exam 220-301 and 220-302. It states in the book that it is for A+ exam, for core hardware and OS exam. I thought that was for A+ certification book, cant be wrong.

But I went to Microsoft site and downloaded it's MCSA pdf file and saw that the exam 220-301 and 220-302 are not listed under its Elective requirements. So have I bought the wrong book? Can someone explain please? Thanks a lot.

What are the exam codes for the CompTIA A+ exams?
The exam code for the CompTIA A+ Core Hardware exam is 220-301. The exam code for the linear CompTIA A+ Operating System Technologies exam is 220-302.

How can my CompTIA A+ certification be used toward Microsoft certification programs?
Microsoft accepts CompTIA A+ as an elective for both the MCSA.

Do I take both exams at once or at separate times?
You can do either. Most choose to take their exams at separate times. The exams are updated periodically and you have until the next update to take the second exam.

Thanks.I hope I didnt buy the wrong book. Just wat confused me was, what is the difference between exam 220-221,220-222 and 220-301,220-302. They seem to be the same.

wll6568,

First, the CompTIA A+ certification counts as 1/2 of the requirement for the MCSA elective.

To receive an elective credit toward the MCSA certification, candidates must earn the CompTIA A+ credential and either the CompTIA Network+ credential or the CompTIA Server+ credential. Alternatively, candidates can earn the CompTIA Security+ credential.

Second, the 2003 revision of the A+ exams has the codes 220-301 for A+ Core Hardware and 220-302 for A+ Operating System Technologies. 220-221 and 220-222 are older versions of the same exams that are no longer available.

A+, Network+, Security+, MCSA: Security 2003

While the hardware knowledge is good to know, I wish that I had gone with the Net+ (as much as I dread taking that test) and the Security + for my electives. Knowing the networks, and how to keep them secure is getting to be quite a challenge.

You have the right books -- study up, especially on the printing, and some of the networking -- it amazed me at the number of networking questions I got in my A+ hardware test, I took the test during the changeover in 2003, and for a beginner's test, they certainly had a lot of "non-beginner" questions on the tests!
