What do you mean by "large"?
The initial movie is under 30kb.

I have done lots of sites and many of them are total Flash, however, none of them are considered "large". about 100k preload is all you should have at the most. I say anything much over that should be broken up into separate movies and called in as needed.

There are several things you can do to help the file size stay within limits and each person must set their own min/max they are going to stick with...

-highly optimized bitmaps(sparingly)
-sound loops as opposed to full clips(sparingly)
-reuse as many graphics as possible by making them into symbols
-use tweens sparingly
-use gradient fills sparingly
-do not embed fonts into your flash and to the swf file unless you absolutely have to. Sometimes you only need a few letters or numbers and it is best to only embed exactly what you need (text panel) rather than the whole font set.
-watch the bandwidth profiler very closely and preview often.
-test movie at 14.4, 28.8, and 56k utilizing the debug menu in preview mode. Select View/Show Streaming to simulate a user at these settings.

Thanks for the info TulsaJeff. My site right now does have movies that are mostly above 100K. I work for an interior design firm and so the site has a lot of photos. I'm planning on breaking up the movies some more.

Oldnewbie, I can't believe that the entire site is under 30K. If its true, how did they compress it so much. There is a lot of content there.

Notice that I said the initial movie and not the whole site! Whatever movies are loaded after that is not part of that 30KB.
