hi all,

my question is two fold.
how does the ya softphone do compression? does it adhere to the same rules as the 5212 and 5224 (and other phones that have built in compression)? in other words if I were to put a softphone in a different compression zone to another IP device or softphone and I make a call, will the call be compressed bearing in mind that there are no compression dsp's installed?

also as of the latest software release or maybe a bit earlier, the teleworker software compression is a purchasable option. why would I ever need this if I can achieve compression by virtue of setting up different compression zones on the 3300 controller. In my opinion I wouldn't need it right?

input is appreciated.
tnx

Good question. Accourding to MiAUDIO API manual it supports G.729 compression for native applications (not TAPI). I assume YA is built as a native one. I cannot install YA on my XP because of some strange conflict in MDAC component. According to TW server manual it will do transcoding to NATIVE ICP codec if requested. So if you put TW set to another compression zone, ICP should initiale media exchange using G.729 and would not require transcoding. According to ICP manual you nedd to have DSP and compression licenses only for calls which cross IP/TDM boundary. If call initiated between two sets in different compression zones or cross IP trunk with compression enabled it will be G.729 media RTP stream from set to set.
