Hello!

We use Solstice Backup 5.5.5.

Using .nsr files on backup clients we can compress data
before sending them to server.

Is there any way to send data to server uncompressed
and to compress them on server before saving?

We want to place more load on server and less on client
machine.

Thank you in advance!

This is called the client side compression. It should only
be used in case of a slow network.

If you want to do this on the NW server, you must copy the
files over there before the backup. But then these file do
not belong to the remote client any longer.

Hardware compression is done by selecting the appropriate
device name. This is always done at the storage node (the
device).

So you should not use those "nsr" files using compressasm directives anymore.
For solaris you should use "/dev/rmt/Xcbn" devices.

Hi,

Don't use the .nsr files and leave it to the devices to do the compression.

You will need to set the device to the /dev/rmt/[0-1-2-3-4-....0cbn and let them compress the data.

Good luck.
