Compression isn't working for me!

Hi, I have an OnStream 50gig tape drive and tapes. Of course uncompressed the maxximum amount of space each disk holds is only 25. Now, I know for a fact that this drive supports compression, but the use compression checkbox is grayed out and it only compresses up to 25 gigs. I have my backup jobs set to use Hardware compression, otherwise none, so I'd like to know:

Is this a Tape Drive config. problem or Veritas problem, and does anyone have any solutions to this issue.
