Hi .. I wonder if anybody could help me to decrease the size of a background image when inserted. Perhaps using layers?? Thanks.

Actually doing a "Save for Web" will open up many options that will allow you to reduce the size of the image. Play with the variables and watch the numbers at the lower left. The numbers show the size of the file and the load time. » » » » » »

It depends what software you're using to create your background (and what file format you're using). GIFs are generally smaller files than JPGs, but have less colours.

I would recommend using Macromedia Fireworks and playing about with the various options in the Export Preview.

Thanks all... but the reason I'm asking is... I was very impressed with
They created the background image to be so small file size. I have dreamweaver. What can I do in Dreamweaver to have this effect?

The background image alone is 62k. Thats not small!

Theres all sorts going on in there, and it took my 56k modem nearly 2 minutes to d/l.

For an image of that complexity, its not bad though. any good image editor will compress that well or better.

Try Paint shop Pro,
for a trial version. You can export JPEGS and choose the compression ratio. Have a go...
